This Week's Playlist #85 - Guest feature: Greg H
Greg shares with us his 5 favourite "Summer 2023" songs.
Hello everyone!
This Week's Playlist - Season 2, episode 33.
I first heard about Greg through his previous post-hard-core life (he was playing in one Parisian band at the time). We then met through mutual friends, and I followed his musical ventures (both rock and electronic) since then. Listen to his projects in his bio to get an idea of his talent.
I was honoured when he agreed to send me a selection for t this week's playlist.
Enjoy, and see you next week.
TL;DR: I'm running a musical newsletter with a new guest sharing 5 songs each week.
There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:
Tidal (coming soon)
Deezer (coming soon)
Guest of the week: Greg H
Hi I’m Greg, and music is my life. I perform and release music as G.H.Francis, Almeeva and Kabbel. I also play in the bands Jean Jean, Sure, Ghoster, Juni, and sometimes produce albums for other acts.
Thomas and I met about 10 years ago, through a mutual group of friends that was all about indie-rock and partying. I love discovering new music, so I thought about sharing my favorite « Summer 2023 » songs here.
Thanks Thomas for having me!
Links:
1. The Japanese House - Boyhood
I love it when a simple song can sink into your brain on a deep level effortlessly. The mood is « late-afternoon summer melancholy, somewhere in the countryside » : literal description of my teens hehe. Very clever production, subtle but lively.
2. Blonde Redhead - Snowman
There’s nothing quite like the formula of Blonde Redhead. I’m always impressed with their rhythmic approach. The drums and percussions are miles away from the « indie rock » realm that you would expect. And there’s this mix of romantic sorrow and child-like playfulness in the vocals. On paper this could go so wrong, but they make a beautiful movie out of it, and you can’t look away from the screen.
3. Sigur Ros - Gold
This album can really turn you inside out. It’s a whirlwind of beauty, sadness and joy, the sort of stuff you need to get your life in order. I’d say its their best album since « ( ) ». I’m particularly moved by the song « Gold », but they’re all amazing. Make sure you spin it from start to finish, this album can turn a shitty situation into the most graceful moment.
4. Paerish - Still There
They’re one of the best indie-rock acts in France right now, and I’m proud to call them my friends. « Still There » is a banger, as « Undone » was, so I hope this song will carve another path of success for them. Their new album is out late august, I’m very happy to have worked on the vinyl design.
5. Niki & The Dove & The Greys - Future Promise
Some love for my new residential country, Sweden. Perfect late summer night vibe, to speak the truth with your close friends, while a gentle breeze blows. The vocalist has such a unique tone, sometimes close to Fever Ray.
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
