Hello everyone!
This Week's Playlist - Season 2, episode 30.
Another topical edition this week (entirely randomly following the Desert edition), Following July 2023 being the hottest month on record, I decided to pick 5 songs related to global warming.
Enjoy, and see you next week.
TL;DR: I'm running a musical newsletter with a new guest sharing 5 songs each week.
There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:
Tidal (coming soon)
Deezer (coming soon)
1. Childish Gambino - Feels Like Summer
I had to dig that one. A chilled slow jam with a light tune and chilled guitars, which lyrics deal with a much bigger and darker topic.
2. The Good, The Bad and The Queen - The Good, The Bad and The Queen
Not Global Warming related besides the album cover with the Great Fire of London. However, I saw Blur earlier this week. Damon Albarn is always involved in many environmental causes, so I'd include a track from one of his supergroups.
3. Thom Yorke - Hands Off The Antarctic
I also had to dig for this one as well. Thom Yorke released a single for Greenpeace before his Susperia soundtrack in support of their campaigns for protecting the Antarctic.
Purely ambient/instrumental, with breathtaking footage on the video.
4. Daft Punk - Burnin’
Another non global warming-related title, just a very explicit title, and a very cool music video :-)
5. Gojira - Global Warming
What better band to finish this week's playlist? French heavy metal behemoths have been outspoken about environmental issues since their early days. They have used their music, platform, and actions to raise awareness about climate change and other environmental challenges.
They have been supporting several environmental organizations. They use their lyrics to address environmental themes and their music to raise awareness about climate change and other related issues.
This song from their album From Mars to Sirius (released in 2005) is a powerful indictment of human-caused climate change.
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
