Hello everyone!
Another Paris vibe for this week’s newsletter, with today’s guest.
Also, Ed Banger Records, the infamous Parisian music label, is turning 20 this month. Their sound is heavily influenced by French touch (Pedro Winter, the founder, used to be Daft Punk's manager ). It is known for its unique blend of melodic, experimental elements and recognizable covers. Think of bands like Justice, Cassius, Sebastian, Mr Oizo, and DJ Mehdi.
Ed Banger rose to fame in the late 2000s. I was back in Paris, and their records were the soundtrack of my partying Parisian life. In a way, they were my gateway back to electronic music. I've been listening to many of their records from that time this week.
Stay tuned after Sabrina's 5 songs of the week for my 5 favourite Ed Banger records tracks :-)

Have a great week, everyone :-)
Guest of the week: Sabrina
I’m Sabrina, born & raised near Paris, always been attracted to music, especially rock & metal but listen to many genres ! And also I’m a PR for a record company & gig promoter.
I know Thomas for 20 years I think… He met one of my best friend in the pit at a Tool concert in Paris- that sums up pretty well Thomas, he could make friends anywhere- and we started hanging out together, going to parties, and concerts of course ! Our love and passion for music (especially rock & metal) helped to create a strong friendship, and even though he now lives in London, we still go to concerts together in the UK or France). I think I never met someone with such a wide and deep knowledge of music, his weekly playlist is always a great way for me to step out of my comfort zone and listen to music I would’ve never have the chance to listen to. So I’m really proud to be a part of it with my own choices of songs, those who know me won’t be surprised, it sums up pretty well who I am and where I come from musically speaking !
Pick up a song from the last album you bought
Dream Widow - Cold
The last LP I bought is the album of Dream Widow, the fictional metal band from the Foo Fighters movie Studio666. I chose Cold. It's the album I listened the most in 2022, it showcases (if anyone still had a doubt) the huge talent and variety of skills Dave Grohl has ☺️
2. Pick a song you know all the lyrics to.
Alanis Morissette - Wake Up
Which song do you know all the lyrics to? Any song from Jagged Little Pill from Alanis Morissette. This album had a huge impact on me as a teenager, this is when I realized I could sing quite well, and her sound was so new, nothing sounded like her voice or music at the time.
3. Pick one of your guilty pleasures
Bon Jovi - Livin’ On A Prayer
Bon Jovi of course! Livin on a prayer. Who can honestly say they never sang or partied on this song? I grew up listening to them as my older brother was a huge fan and saw them a couple times live, always fucking cool shows.
4. Pick a song which represents the city you were born in
Suprême NTM - Seine Saint Denis Style
Seine Saint Denis style by French rappers NTM, since I was born in the Seine Saint Denis department, one of the poorest area in France with lots of social housing thus it has a very bad image but I disagree with this stereotype cliché, I was quite lucky with my neighbourhood and have great memories there. NTM were the pioneers of rap in France and anyone born in the 80s has listened to them.
5. Pick your favourite song from a impressive band you saw live
Foo Fighters - Come Back
I can't do this without 1 song from the Foo Fighters, my favourite band. I was lucky to have seen them several times, and they were huge on stage every time. I will pick a song that is not a hit, but one that I love and that is more than appropriate since the band has just communicated on a comeback, so here's Come Back from One By One.
🎧 My 5 favourite Ed Banger tracks (without particular order)
DJ Mehdi - Pocket Piano
Cassis - I <3 U So (Skream Remix)
Zongamin - Bongo Song
SebastiAn - Embody
Justice - Close Call
And if you’re reading me until here, you can have a listen to the orchestral renditions of Ed Banger hits they released for their 15th anniversary. Beauty.
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
