This Week's Playlist #121 - The 20 years of live shows edition
Slim is picking up 5+1 songs of bands we saw live together.
Hello everyone!
This Week's Playlist - Season 3, Episode 17.
Back to another weekly guest this year, with Slim, an old Parisian friend (again :-)).
We have been to many live shows together since our student years. So I asked him to pick five songs from memorable concerts we've been to together (and, as a featured image, the Batofar, one of the powerhouses of electronic live music in Paris in the 2000s. We went there a lot).
I hope you enjoy it and see you next week.
There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:
2003-2023: 20 years of live shows
1. Radiohead - Idiotheque (live 2003, Paris)
I don't listen to Radiohead, but with a good drum kick, I can still dance like a mad monkey.
That's what happened in Bercy that night. We can relieve the whole show here.
24 songs: that's a lot for one show, but hey! It was 2003!
2. EZ3kiel - Requiem ft. D.A.A.U (live 2004, Paris)
Thomas dragged me there. I knew EZ3kiel were friends with Peuple de l'Herbe and other French bands I was listening to so I tagged along.
It was one of the most intense live shows I have been to.
The whole set was so gloomy I started to doubt the musicians' intentions. When they let D.A.A.U. join them for their cover of Requiem for a Dream I knew they never had any good intentions.
3. We Insist! - Custom Device (live 2009/10, Montreuil)
I listen to We Insist! a lot. The first time we went to one of their
show, I expected some brass and horns from their last album.
But they just had stripped down the band to an electric power trio.
Still so energetic, damn it.
4. Oxbow - Over (Live 2011, La Villette Sonique - Paris)
The singer *is* the show. And everyone agrees with that.
5. Show Me The Body - Camp Orchestra (Live 2016, Philadelphia & 2023, Bordeaux)
We went to a punk show at Babary (R.I.P., my favourite club) in Philly, but there was no way to find the band we saw that night online.
I know Show Me The Body played there just a few nights before. They just toured Europe last year,r so I got to see them.
5+1 Bonus. Mombu - Niger (Live 2009 & 2010, Montreuil)
Mombu was opening for We Insist! I think we went to see them again.
Maybe it is not the most experimental show we went to, but it is definitely on this list
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
