Hello everyone!
This Week's Playlist - Season 3, Episode 12.
A recurring topic this week.
Spring is around the corner (at least in London), and the sun is slowly returning.
I thought I would take some time to catch up with some of the 2024 releases I haven't spoken about yet. Another weekly guest this week.
See you next week.
There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:
1. Nadine Shah - Twenty Things
I discovered Nadine Shah when she was opening for Young Fathers last year. I really loved her warm voice (somewhere between PJ Harvey and Martina Topley Bird). I listened a lot to her new album, "Filthy Underneath" full of heart-warming - though glacial melodies somewhere between indie rock, jazz, and folk.
Those interested can also read about her story here in an interview from the Guardian.
2. Justice - Generator
I'm a big Justice fan.
I returned to Paris right when their Cross† album went out, danced to their tunes between smokey clubs and late house parties, and listened a lot to their 3 albums since then.
They are releasing a new album in April, but I already listened a lot to this single, which I really enjoy. I really enjoy the typical Justice approach, making funky vibes, elegant classical music, and raging electronic beats coexist on the same track.
3. Ty Segall - The Bell
A friend of mine recently made me listen to the new album of the american sonfwriter. I didn’t know that much about him but often came back to the garage / lo-fi yet very grungy rock.
4. Bear McCreary - Incinerator (feat. Serj Tankian)
Bear McCreary is a movie soundtrack (The Walking Dead, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, among other references) / video game music composer who's also a metalhead at heart and releasing a new album with a lot of collabs with his musical heroes.
Incinerator features System of a Down's Serj Tankian and his o-recognizable multi-faceted vocal range (as well as Gene Hoglan from Death and Testament on the Drums) for a frantic metal track.
5. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Wild God
The living Australian god is making a new offering to us mortals with a new album that will arrive at the end of the summer.
Until then, we have this new single to listen to, with an incredible build-up.
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
