Hello everyone!
The 100+2th playlist :-)
Yet again, this is the second volume of another episode from last year: the closing tracks edition.
Here are (another) five classic album closing tracks songs I frequently return to this year.
I hope you enjoy them. See you next week!
TL;DR: I'm running a musical newsletter with a new guest sharing 5 songs each week.
There is a YouTube link for each of the songs on the cover, and here are the playlists for each streaming platform:
1. LCD Soundsystem - New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down
The poignant voice of James Murphy closes out the greatest electronic/dance albums of all with a heartbreaking ballad directed at the city that never sleeps).
A song that many of us living in big megapolises can relate to sometimes.
2. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Road Trippin’
Another classic from their "Californication" album.
The song, which is entirely acoustic and doesn't feature drums, documents the band members' surfing trip after guitarist John Frusciante rejoined the Chili Peppers. It's the sound of a band (and a group of friends) coming back together.
The video is also worth a check.
3. Fiona Apple - Hot Knife
Hot Knife is a perfect example of Fiona Apple's sound: a distilled sound of dozens of layers crafted and delivered in a kind of mayhem.
It's a beautiful love song, making it sound slightly more frantic and eerie, with multiple tracks of her voice intertwined with hypnotic percussions.
4. The Gathering - A Life All Mine (feat. Garm)
The Dutch prog rock/metal band's album "Souvenirs" is probably my favourite album with them. It's also one of their most progressive sounds, adventuring in new spheres such as trip-hop (and even hip-hop) or electronic music.
The closing track encapsulates this maverick spirit in a featuring with Kristoffer Rygg (aka Garm), the singer of Ulver, for a very minimalistic and angelic track.
5. Justice - Close Call
A chilled/haunting melody for Justice's closing track of their 3rd album, "Woman".
Its hypnotic beats create an intense, suspenseful atmosphere that builds toward a thrilling climax.
Until the next time, Godspeed!
Thomas
